A little teaser of this cool ships-ladder stair build. Full project coming soon.Button

Wrapped up the railing on this cute little starter home in lakewood today. Shoutout to @kcconstruction02 on another fun project, and special thank you to these home owners with great taste, green thumbs, and the happiest little puppy!Button

I had the pleasure of working with @kcconstruction02 on this project. While this is far from the most intricate or complex project I've ever done, knowing the impact this work will have is probably the most rewarding. These rails will aid in the mobility of the matriarch of the family, allowing her easier access to the #outdoorliving space and the front driveway. #custommetalwork isn't always life changing, but knowing that this work will make a small difference in quality of life for someone is pretty awesome.Button

Put this fun little vanity together for this sink a contractor buddy of mine had laying around. Took a while longer than I though, because I hand filed every corner joint on the lower shelves, but I think it turned out pretty nice. Now we need to find some baskets to fit on the shelves. And we put in a cool temperature sensing light up faucet for the kids.Button

This beautiful remodel project is designed and managed by Every Place Design. I was honored to be a part of it. My only regret is that we finished the stairs so quickly that I won't be able to see the rest of the house completed. They just had the hardwood refinished and new cabinets and a sliding glass wall is going in near the dining room. It will have panoramic views over the southern Parker area. It should be amazing when it's all done!Button

These #castlepines clients added some anonymity and safety to their back patio with this privacy screen. It was a beautiful day to finish this install and I couldn't be happier with this result. This was probably the most fun project I've built so far, and these were amazing clients to work with.Button

We recently had the pleasure of refurbishing this bistro sign. Check out @copertadenver for some awesome Italian!Button

A few months ago I was blessed with an opportunity to help @denverflooringandfinishes with this beautiful outdoor living area. But we had a small engineering setback once the counter tops were installed. The railing was a bit wobbly once the weight was added on top. Today, I had the help of my good buddy, Flier, installing the new lower support brackets. I think they turned out pretty good, but not as good as Flier with his slick new haircut. #customwelding #outdoorliving #coloradoremodel #customhome #metalwork Oh. And I feel like this @trexcompany deck needs a shout out too. It's over 15 years old and still in awesome shape. It was truly a pleasure to build off of.Button

This one didn't make it through client approval, but it might be my favorite design yet. I'd love to build this for someone. Who wants this in their home? #customwelding #customremodel #fabrication #customhomeButton

Tire racks for my brother's garage turned out great! @willnickmele has a sweet ride that deserves some extra elbow room. Go check out his profile to see what it is.Button

Refining details has been the focus of the last few projects. Here you can see the process for the counterbored flush hardware used in the most recent build. I got this idea from two other builders @costafabrications and @builtbysteele These guys are both great fabricators in different states and make some really cool stuff. If you like what you've seen on this page, give them a follow too! #customfabrication #welder #customwelding #metalworkButton

These wall rails are still one of my favorite things to make. #handrail #customfabrication #handmade #remodelButton

This design has become familiar to me. But it's a little bit different in the details and execution. The client asked if I could hide the pocket holes I use to secure the wood on the back side of the rail. Initially I said no, but when I went to bed that question wouldn't let me sleep. So I found a way to flip those holes on the bottom/back in order to better serve the client. This entire job has been a personal challenge to refine details in ways I hadn't before, and I'm happy to say the end result was a huge success. Also, I'm in love with the way the waterfall rail falls exactly in line with the floor trim around the stairs. So much of being a business owner can be reduced to stacking small wins like this. #doitanyway #75hard #customfabrication #welder #customhomes #remodelButton

You asked for it, here it is! The home made death machine. This oven is big enough to slow (or fast) roast an entire elk. It's made almost entirely of recycled and second hand parts with the exception of the exterior paneling, framing studs, and foil tape. This is how we get our jobs powdercoated in a matter of days, rather than weeks like some other metal fabricators. It was built on the floor in my basement, one wall at a time, and assembled in the shop using angle iron from steel bedframes as the struts to hold it together. This thing works way better than I'd ever hoped it would, and saved me a ton of time. It's one of my favorite, and certainly scariest tools. #diy #powdercoat #custommetal #diyrenovation #handrail #welding #customfabricationButton

This corner joint is for an outdoor application. Rather than welding everything together we've opted for joints with flush mounted hardware (hidden underneath). This will allow for easy removal of individual pieces to be easily re-coated as the weather takes its toll. #customremodel #powdercoating #customfabricationButton

This is the standard. This is waking up on time, making healthy choices, putting in the time, setting the example for your kids. This the the tangible result. Nothing else is acceptable. #fw #welder #customremodel #custommetalwork #75hardButton

New brackets came in last night! It's so cool to go from digital design to actual parts in hand. I think they are pretty cool. What do you think about this design? #customremodel #coloradocontractor #coloradowelderButton

Glass fiber reinforced concrete and 1.5×3" steel table base. This custom piece was made for my very first client to match the modern wood and metal handrail I made for her home. This is our first attempt with concrete, and at first I wasn't sure how it would turn out. The face coat was hand laid into the mold so it would have some texture, then we went back over it with a light gray tile grout to fill the voids and lines. It turned out to have a "lunar surface" appearance that I'm totally hooked on. By the end I almost hoped she wouldn't like it so I could keep it for my self 😅Button

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of helping a client with only partial use of their right hand. He needed handrail on both sides of his stairs. Where the new home builder was not able to accomodate, we were more than happy to by adding these wall mounted grab rails. The textured finish was a tough match, but it turned out nearly identical in the end.Button

This one is almost done. It will have a dark stain to match the new flooring soon, but I'm kind of liking the light wood contrast. Swipe for before pictures.Button

Here's some more pieces that were recently powder coated. I've been on the side hustle lately getting some work done for some of the boys in @drift.colorado Always love helping out my friends in the car community.Button

It's the powder coat post! I wanted to document the process of finishing my metalwork here because a lot of the time when powder coat is mentioned I get funny looks, or my clients assume that I'm referring to a flat black color. Powder coating is a super durable finish created by applying a very fine dust of polymer particles to a conductive workpiece. The dust is ionized as it leaves the end of the powder coat gun and static clings to the part. Once the part is sufficiently coated it is then cured in an oven (mine is the home made deathmachine variety, but more on that later.) Temperatures usually reach around 400*F for about 10 minutes. This allows the plastic dust to "gel" or flow out and stick to the part permanently. Parts go in the oven dusty, and presto! Out they come, shiny and smooth. It's like an easy bake oven for painting metal. Much more environmentally friendly and durable than spray on finish, and you don't have to wait hours or days for it to dry, although you do want to wait for it to cool off. Look out for another post about the aforementioned homemade death machine. #customremodel #powdercoating #welding #metalfabrication #metalhandrailButton

This one is done! It was an honor to work on the home of this wonderful family who had safety concerns about their non code compliant and somewhat rickety stair rail. (swipe ---> to see a before picture) Although I prefer to work with metal, sometimes integrating some dead tree bones is the right call. Red oak handrail from @houseofforgings with custom metal infill panels finished in @prismaticpowders Black Jack flat black powdercoat. Old Masters gel stain with a satin polyurethane made quick work of the wood finish. This is probably my favorite project so far. Trim painting to follow. #handrails #metalfabrication #coloradoliving #woodworking #welding #interiordesignButton

From basement to second floor, this project is done (at least my contribution). When I arrived to take measurements, everything was soaked in red and orange tones, and while nice initially, the space what a bit harsh after some time spent inside. How far this place has come! It was an honor to be included in this modern style remodel. And I should note that I had nothing to do with the fire place, but thought that the mosaic tile was too cool not to share.Button

Branding just dropped. Curious about the name? "Tine" refers to a prong or sharp point, such as that on an antler. In metal working, precision is the point. From the beginning of the job when measurements are taken, to each individual weld, to the hours of meticulous installation, near perfection is required to create a quality product that will stand the test of time. At Black Tine Design, we're very particular about the work we do. [Coming soon...a behind the scenes look at some of the custom tools we've built to streamline our process.🔨🔩⚙️] * * * #metalworking #ironworking #customresidential #customstairsandrailings #custommetalwork #denverstairrailButton

I had a neighbor ask if I could build some table legs for these floor tiles. His wife really liked the tile and he wanted to surprise her for her birthday. I wanted go a little bit past just a normal table leg and decided to give the tile a floating look. This also allowed me to hide the unfinished edges of the tile. Raw steel finish with a quick satin clear coat to prevent rust. I used a 120g sanding disk with an orbital palm sander and it gave the steel a really interesting texture.Button

The project that started it all. When we purchased this house at the beginning of 2021 the stairs could be best described as a diy hack job (swipe to see a before picture from the home listing). I couldn't find someone to sell me the parts I wanted, so I decided out of frustration to make them my self! And the rest is history, so they say.Button
